Lady had no budget to redecorate her living room walls. Here’s how she did it for $9.

When faced with a tight budget, redecorating can seem like an impossible task. However, with a hint of creativity and minimal spending, you can transform your living room walls into something truly special. This DIY project focuses on using inexpensive materials to give your living room a fresh, new look for just $9. It’s perfect for anyone looking to breathe new life into their space without breaking the bank.
This DIY works best with a modern or bohemian aesthetic, but can be adapted to fit various styles. Pair the redecorated walls with simple, neutral-toned furniture and pops of color from throw pillows or plants. Consider incorporating different textures through rugs and curtains to create a cohesive and inviting atmosphere. The key is to maintain a balance between the newly decorated walls and the rest of the room’s elements.
Budget-Friendly Wall Redecoration
Materials
Painter’s Tape – 1 roll
Sample Paint Containers (various colors) – 4
Paint Brushes – 2
Newspapers or Drop Cloths – as needed
Level – 1
Measuring Tape – 1
Pencil – 1
Directions
Start by laying down newspapers or drop cloths to protect the floor and any furniture near the walls you will be painting.
Use the measuring tape and level to plan out a geometric design on your wall. Mark the design lightly with a pencil.
Apply painter’s tape along the pencil lines to ensure clean, straight edges for your geometric shapes.
Shake the sample paint containers well. Pour a small amount of each color into separate bowls or containers for easier access.
Using the paintbrushes, fill in the shapes you created with the different paint colors. Allow each color to dry before moving to the adjacent shape to prevent smearing or blending.
Once all the paint is dry, carefully peel off the painter’s tape to reveal clean lines and a striking geometric design.
Touch up any areas where the paint may have bled under the tape using a small brush and some white paint, if necessary.
Variations & Tips
For a different approach, consider using washi tape instead of paint to create a temporary and easily changeable design. This method allows you to regularly update the look of your living room without committing to a permanent change. Additionally, you could use stencils to add patterns or motifs rather than geometric shapes, which works well for a more traditional or eclectic style. Experiment with colors and shapes to find the combination that best suits your personal taste and home decor.
