11 potent home remedies for unclogging a clogged ear

Plugged ears can be quite irksome. You feel like you’re inside a tin can. You have a hard time hearing what others are saying and then end up speaking loudly in response because you think they’re having the same problem.
Whether wax, water, sinus pressure or altitude is the culprit, clogged ears don’t have to mean suffering. With the 11 potent home remedies below, you may be able to get back to normal hearing in short order.
1. Decongestant. If your clogged ears are due to sinus pressure, then WebMD recommends taking a decongestant.
2. Blow-dryer. For water in the ear, Medical News Today suggests using a hair dryer on low about a foot away to try to remove the water and alleviate the pressure.
3. Alcohol and vinegar. A solution of equal parts water and vinegar is another possibility for easing a clogged ear due to water. Medical News Today says to drop three to four drops in the ear, let it sit for 30 seconds and then drain it.
4. Yawning. If pressure change is the culprit, Mayo Clinic recommends yawning.
5. Tugging on ear. Pulling on the earlobe while tipping your head is another way to help get rid of an ear clogged from water, according to Medical News Today.
6. Oil. For ear wax, drop some warm baby oil, mineral oil, glycerin or hydrogen peroxide into the ear, and let it sit for a couple of days. Then flush it out with some water, as Mayo Clinic recommends.
7. Vacuum. Since water can easily get into your ear and create pressure, finding ways to get it out is important. Medical News Today says to create a vacuum on the ear with the palm of your hand using cupping and flattening motions.
8. Chewing gum. Gum is great for many things, but alleviating clogged ears due to pressure changes is an exceptional use, according to Mayo Clinic. They also advise making it sugar-free.
9. Hydrogen peroxide. Another way to get rid of stopped-up ears due to water is to drop in a mixture of diluted hydrogen peroxide. Medical News Today recommends using three to four drops, and then draining the ear after 2-3 minutes.
10. Warm compress. Using a warm compress may help an ear clogged with water, according to Medical News Today.
11. Blowing your nose. Mayo Clinic says that pinching the nose and blowing while keeping the mouth closed is a helpful way to unclog ears from pressure. The “pop” is how you know you’ve succeeded.
No matter what the cause, clogged ears are irritating. With these useful remedies, you no longer have to suffer from the “tin box syndrome.” You can finally get outside the box!
