My girlfriend wanted to get rid of an old bread basket she had inherited from her parents, which was stored in a shed and used to line up tools. When she decided to tidy up, she considered throwing it away to declutter the space.
As soon as I saw the basket, I immediately fell in love with it. A fan of antiques, I decided to restore it and turn it into a decorative piece for my kitchen.
The restoration was a relatively long and difficult process. First, I removed the dust and dirt using an air compressor, then washed it with water. Afterward, it became clear that the basket needed substantial repairs. The bottom was rusted, and the paint was peeling off.
I bought a paint stripper and applied it several times. Then, I used boiling water to remove the residue of rust and paint. After that, I carefully cleaned the surface with sandpaper, rust remover, and abrasive powder.
When my girlfriend saw the final result, she asked me to give her the basket. I agreed, but on one condition: she had to find another old basket for me.
I’m so happy to have saved this old basket and transformed it into a real work of art.
It now sits proudly in my kitchen, reminding me of the happy memories from my childhood.
