A forgotten vintage tool that most people today wouldn’t recognize.

This is a vintage food strainer or colander, commonly known as a “cone strainer” or “chinois” (French for “Chinese” due to its conical shape). It was used in kitchens for pressing, straining, or pureeing foods like fruits, vegetables, or sauces. The metal cone has fine perforations, and the wooden pestle was used to mash or press the food through the strainer, leaving seeds, skins, or pulp behind. The stand holds the strainer steady during use.

These tools were especially popular before electric blenders and food processors became common and remain a favorite for traditional recipes and canning. A perfect mix of practicality and timeless design!
