Cajun Chicken Sloppy Joes
Ingredients:
– 900g lean ground beef
– 1 cup white onion, diced
– 1 small green bell pepper, seeded and diced
– 450g tomato sauce
– 1 cup ketchup
– 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
– 2 tsp prepared yellow mustard
– 2 tsp brown sugar
– 2 tsp Kickin’ Cajun Seasoning Mix (or store-bought Creole or Cajun Seasoning)
– 1 tsp garlic powder
– 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper (adjust amount as needed)
– 1/2 tsp fresh ground pepper
– 8 Kaiser rolls or hamburger buns, toasted
Directions:
1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, onions, and bell pepper until the meat crumbles and no pink remains. Drain well and return the skillet to heat.
2. Add tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, brown sugar, Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, crushed red pepper (to taste), and fresh ground pepper. Stir well to combine and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 20 minutes, stirring frequently.
3. Serve the Cajun Sloppy Joe mixture warm on toasted buns.
Notes:
For a spicier kick, increase the crushed red pepper amount. You can also top with cheese or pickles for extra flavor.
