WC – The Toilet Sign That Left Generations Puzzled

We may sometimes come across a sign that doesn’t make much sense to us. Many people felt that way when they saw a sign above the toilet that also had the letters WC included in the sign.

The people were curious why a toilet sign would be stamped with the letters WC and they had no idea that it actually stood for something. It is a relatively old term but it is one that is still used in certain countries and it stands for ‘water closet.’

Although we don’t typically use the term water closet in the United States and a few other countries, there is a good reason why it was named in such a way. It wasn’t all that long ago that people would use the bathroom to actually take a bath.

They will go to the ‘restroom’ to get some rest and to use the sink and mirror in order to prepare themselves for the day. They also might go to the water closet to use the toilet.

Many people were curious as to why a toilet would be labeled WC, and the comments came in when it was posted online. Some people were saying that they were just now learning what it stood for and they were in their 20s and other people or just simply saying they call it the bathroom.

In the end, there are many different reasons why we may call it the water closet, bathroom, or even the loo. It’s a matter of what we grew up with and sometimes, we may even use multiple terms to describe it.

Aside from the fact that it has many names, it also offers many conveniences, both in public and in private. So let’s mix it up a little on occasion and call it what it is, the water closet, toilet, bathroom, or any other term that you may use.
