Barron Trump is set to enter the political fray this summer, taking a junior role in supporting his father’s campaign for president.
Fox News reports that the only son to former President Donald Trump and his wife Melania will serve as a GOP delegate from Florida to the Republican National Convention, set to take place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin this July. The 18-year-old high school senior will be one of 41 delegates that the Sunshine State will send to officially nominate Trump as the Republican Party’s standard bearer to take on President Joe Biden in November. The post will give Barron a perch to get a feel for his affinity to the political arena.
Until now, Barron has largely shied away from the campaign trail. He and his mother have worked closely on selecting a college where he will spend the next four years, with insiders saying he strongly prefers New York University over the University of Pennsylvania, Trump’s alma mater. He is set to graduate from Oxbridge Academy in Palm Beach, Florida with the class of 2024 later this month, a ceremony that President Trump will be allowed to attend as a reprieve from his ongoing hush money trial.
Other family members serving as Florida delegates include Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump and Trump’s youngest daughter, Tiffany, the outlet adds, all going to the RNC between July 15th and 18th. Eric Trump will serve as the delegation chair, affording him the responsibility of placing his father’s name before the convention’s delegates for consideration. With no other Republican candidate remaining in the race and no sign of a revolt on the horizon, it’s largely expected to be an uncontentious affair for President Trump.
A campaign official told Fox that Barron “is very interested in our nation’s political process,” dropping a hint that the Trump dynasty may continue on even if President Trump wins and completes his second and final term in office. If Barron chooses to launch a political career in Florida, he would benefit from its ruby red hue and track record of electing Republican elected officials like Governor Ron DeSantis and U.S. Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Rick Scott (R-FL).
“We are fortunate to have a great group of grassroots leaders, elected officials, and members of the Trump family working together as part of the Florida delegation to the 2024 Republican National Convention,” Republican Party of Florida chairman Evan Power said in an emailed statement to The Associated Press.
Melania Trump has remained very protective of her son and would certainly take a role in any rollout. She has insisted that her husband sit with the family for morning breakfasts and recently took Barron on a public outing for Easter breakfast where the 6-foot-7 young man overshadowed his mother, who stands tall at 5-foot-11 herself.
