My photo in 2017, my grandfather’s photo in 1937. He had a professional camera, I have a phone.

In 2017, I stood in front of the Statue of Liberty, holding up my phone to capture the iconic landmark. Looking at the photo, I couldn’t help but think about my grandfather, who had also stood in the same spot 80 years earlier in 1937. He had taken a stunning black and white photo of the Statue of Liberty with his professional camera.

It was amazing to think about the contrast between our two photos – his capturing a historical moment in time with a professional camera, and mine, taken on a phone, showcasing the technological advancements of our time.

As I compared the two photos, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of connection to my grandfather, knowing that we had both stood in the same place, capturing the same incredible sight, but with completely different tools. It was a reminder of how much the world had changed in just a few generations, and how important it was to appreciate both the past and the present.
